LIVELIHOOD EMPOWERMENT AGAINST POVERTY (LEAP) PROGRAMME
LEAP is one of the flagships Programme of the National Social Protection Strategy (NSPS) which commenced in March, 2008, and is administered by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) and managed by the Department of Social Welfare and aims to provide a safety net for the poorest and the most marginalized groups in the Ghanaian society. To this end it provides financial support to the elderly without productive capacity age 65 and above, the extreme disability who are unable to work, caretakers of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC’s) and pregnant women with children below the age of two years.
83RD& 84TH PAYMENT CYCLE PAYMENT REPORT
Due to the current economic situation government has increased beneficiaries cash grant by 100%; meaning two times (2x) the amount of cash grant paid to them previously.
A total number of 811 households were credited during 83rd & 84th payment cycle. Payment started on Wednesday, 12th of July and ended on the Wednesday, 19th of July, 2023.
Total amount credited for the payment of two cycles was One Hundred and Twenty-Eight Thousand and Fifty-Two Ghana Cedis (GH ₵128,052.00) and the total amount paid out to beneficiaries was One Hundred and Sixty-nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Sixty-eight Ghana Cedis (GH₵1,69,768.00) whiles Forty-one Thousand, One Hundred and Eighty-one Ghana Cedis (GH₵41,181.00) was not cash out.
This can be attributed to the fact that some beneficiaries were absent at the pay point, others also went to the nearby banks to access their money, whiles some are also deceased cases awaiting to be rectified by LMS and a caregiver to be changed.
Beneficiaries receive an amount ranging from GH¢ 256.00, GH¢304.00, GH¢352.00 and GH¢424.00.
