Today marks the day when we freed ourselves from the shackles of colonial rule and decided to reshape our destiny.

As we all celebrate the anniversary of this great event in our political history, we bow to all those gallant men and women who made enormous sacrifices to make it possible for us to live in a free and independent Ghana, We cannot show enough appreciation without mentioning the likes of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. J. B. Danquah, Edward Akufo Addo, Emmanuel Obetsebi Lamptey, William Ofori Atta and Ebenezer Ako Adjei who unparalled and immense contribution   led to the achievements of this indelible feat.

Distinguish Ladies and Gentleman, the government decision in 2017 to move Ghana Beyond Aid was a great idea and contribution of the dream of our forefathers who made this day for celebration of our independence. These our freedom fighters are not mere political heroes but Africa icons who inspired and continue to inspire with the vestige of their works throughout the entire continent to be truly independent in words and in deeds.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I want to use this opportunity to urge all of us especially, the pupils and students gathered here today to emulate the sterling qualities of the country`s  founding fathers towards building a prosperous nation. This is the time that, we must all come together as one people, one nation with a common destiny, so that we achieve our struggle for economic emancipation and from the current global crisis. Since 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has had significant negative impact on the world with far-reaching consequence for vulnerable populations and have fragile economies. The pandemic has not only taken the lives of millions of people but has also affected livelihoods and social life, thereby, placing a heavy mental and emotional toll on mankind and all countries across the globe. This situation has been exacerbated   by the slowdown in the global economy and the rising cost of crude oil at a time when developing countries like Ghana are facing serious resources mobilization constraints.

It is therefore the duty for every citizen of Ghana to be united in these striving times, put our differences aside and pull our strength together to contribute to the development of our great nation Ghana.

The theme for this Anniversary is “Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose” resonates with the times and season we find ourselves as a nation and is very appropriate and timely.

Unity has always been a major part of our strength as people in achieving a common goal. We illustriously showed these qualities when COVID-19 struck and together we have been able to surmount it.
